About a project

The Christmas Book is more than a collection of recipes - it is a passed-down experience. A book that travels through generations, preserving not only flavours but also the emotions tied to Christmas Eve and Christmas across time. It opens like an archive of memories, revisited in moments of nostalgia or when searching for a sense of home.

The project intentionally avoids short-lived visual trends. Its design is created to remain relevant regardless of time, allowing emotional value to outweigh seasonality. The focus lies in the relationship between food, memory, and form - a book meant not only to be read, but to be felt.

Provided solution

A cohesive visual system was developed to connect archival recipes with photography of varying styles into a single emotional narrative. Postal stamp aesthetics became the unifying element, turning stylistic diversity into an advantage rather than a limitation. Each image functions as a message sent from a different moment in time.

The cover was designed as a tactile experience. A minimalist ornament, inspired by traditional Christmas and Christmas Eve motifs, bridges historical textile patterns with contemporary minimalism. When possible, the cover is printed on textile-like paper, with ornament lines embossed and foil-stamped, enhancing the sense of longevity and craftsmanship.

Inside the book, recipe photographs are placed within subtle frames reminiscent of postage stamps, complemented by custom stamps marking time or conveying personal messages. The system is easily extendable beyond the book itself — ornaments and stamps can be applied to autographs, printed materials, or other visual touchpoints, reinforcing the book’s identity.
